AmeriCorps, Florida State Parks

For my second term of national service I served with an AmeriCorps State/National program in Jacksonville, Florida hosted by the Florida State Park System.  During this term I provided a broad range of resource management functions to the Talbot Islands State Parks group which included Little Talbot Island, Big Talbot Island, Fort George Island, Amelia Island and Pumpkin Hill Preserve.  Some of the highlights from this term of service included providing leadership to a small sawyer crew performing depression marsh thinning as well as debris removal in central Florida following a tornado.  In addition I installed protective bird fencing on the beach, conducted a gopher tortoise burrow survey and provided environmental interpretation on sea turtles commonly found in North Florida..
