Jason has been Program Director of CAC AmeriCorps in Knoxville, TN since the summer of 2015 and currently serves as the Governor appointed national service representative on the Board of Volunteer Tennessee and the Mayor appointed community representative on the Board of Environmental Appeals for the City of Knoxville. CAC AmeriCorps currently leverages AmeriCorps State/National, AmeriCorps VISTA and AmeriCorps*NCCC program resources to support community action in a four-county area.
Jason previously served for nearly 7 years as the Town of Farragut, Tennessee’s Stormwater Matters, NPDES Stormwater Coordinator receiving regional and national recognition for his work on projects such as the Rainy Day Brush-Off artistic rain barrel competition which was recipient of a Governor’s Environmental Stewardship Award. Jason also played a critical role in the conception and implementation of the Town of Farragut’s Outdoor Classroom and Water Quality Demonstration Site featuring a permeable paver parking lot, permeable concrete walking trails, rain gardens and a rainwater harvesting system.
Jason is a two term AmeriCorps Alum having served in 2006 as a member of AmeriCorps*NCCC, Class XII at the Perry Point, MD campus on Fire II, Eagle IV and the Gulf Liaison Team supporting Hurricane Katrina recovery operations in Mississippi and Louisiana as well as performing a broad range of natural resource management services from Maryland to Maine. Jason references this year of service as the linchpin that led to a second year of service with AmeriCorps, Florida State Parks where he served with Talbot Islands State Parks in Jacksonville, FL which included Little Talbot Island, Big Talbot Island, Fort George Island and Pumpkin Hill Preserve, where he participated in prescribed fire operations, depression marsh thinning and GPS surveys of gopher tortoise and pitcher plant populations.
Jason holds a Bachelor of Fine Art in Studio Art with emphasis in Drawing & Ceramic Sculpture as well as a Master of Science in Environmental Policy & Management and, most recently, a Master of Business Administration from Carson-Newman University. Jason leveraged his relationship with AmeriCorps and Carson-Newman to create an opportunity where AmeriCorps alums can leverage 2 education awards to cover the full cost of tuition for an MBA from Carson Newman.
